Security forces in Pakistan’s northwestern Hangu district reportedly foiled a large-scale infiltration attempt by more than 100 armed individuals, according to police officials. Authorities said the operation involved coordinated action by police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and other security agencies, who claimed to have successfully cleared nearby schools, residential areas, and surrounding mountainous terrain following the incident.

Police stated that during the confrontation, mortar fire allegedly landed in civilian areas, resulting in the deaths of six residents and injuries to 13 others. Officials added that the attackers reportedly retrieved the bodies and injured companions before retreating from the area. The identities and affiliations of the armed group have not been independently verified, though local authorities described them using a term commonly employed by state institutions for banned militant networks.

Following the operation, the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police praised the responding personnel, announcing awards and commendations for their performance. He reiterated that the provincial police force, in coordination with security agencies, remains fully capable of addressing militant threats and ensuring the protection of civilians.

Officials further stated that clearance operations were completed in sensitive zones, and a search operation is ongoing to prevent any possible regrouping. Security has been tightened in surrounding districts as a precautionary measure.

The incident comes amid continued concerns over militancy and cross-border movement in the region, where security forces have frequently carried out counterterrorism operations. Authorities maintain that efforts are ongoing to eliminate armed networks and prevent future attacks, while ensuring civilian safety in vulnerable areas.

No independent verification of the casualty figures or operational claims was immediately available from external sources.
